Twitter Theme Color Not Working
If you are experiencing a new change in Twitter's dark mode, you are not the only one who witnessed the recent change. A lot of people reported that the desktop's dark mode of Twitter has become even darker while others said that the new light-on-dark color scheme transformed into the light mode.
Users do not like Twitter dark mode
Twitter underwent several changes in the past years and its dark mode was not new anymore to the users. Twitter's dark mode is intended for those nocturnal users who love staying up late, or for those who prefer the dim-colored background to a lighter layout. Twitter decided to give the users three options including its "default" version, the "dim" mode, and the "lights out."
According to an article by Slash Gear, those Twitter users who open the application on the desktop are the ones who find the dark mode quite uncomfortable.

Some users reported that when they open their "blue-background" account, it just becomes a pure black background. The most unsettling comments came from those people who favored "the dark theme," where they said that the new background turned into a lustrous, burning background.
While complaints about the dark mode flocked Twitter, the company said that it is a part of the adjustment when it comes to browser regardless of what theme the users have selected. The "dim" version was completely ignored as a result, since operating systems have only either dark or light as the option.

For the OS users who are fond of using the light theme, turning the theme to dark will result in a glaring, white background. Twitter told The Verge that the incident of the sudden change in the theme should not happen like that.
Twitter Auto-switch
The social media giant clarified that the huge mess was caused by a bug and if you switch your Twitter theme to "dim" or "lights out" mode with your OS set in "light mode," that could likely happen. To change your theme to its default version, just go to the display settings.
Meanwhile, Bleeping Computer said that the abrupt change in theme began on February 2. This is when Twitter will have an auto-switch feature of selecting either light or dark themes depending on the settings of your operating system. Twitter will make use of the "lights-out" theme if you want to switch your theme to dark.
In addition, the newest auto-dark mode in Twitter can only work if you are using Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Brave, which are all Chromium-based browsers.
For this feature to work, the CSS media query which prefers the color scheme in Twitter should be used for the websites to adopt the modified theme, as well as the layout according to the user's OS.
Forcing Twitter to shift to the light mode
Forcing Twitter to use light mode might be kind of buggy, especially if you go to the settings and look for the display preferences. When you go to the display settings, click More, then Settings and Privacy, and proceed to Accessibility, Display, and Languages before going to Display to change the theme to default. After you do it, the auto-switch will not work anymore in-between the themes.

If you hate the new dark mode, just follow the above-mentioned steps and click the background option to "default" or "dim" to revert to the usual dark and light Twitter themes.
